Tasting Notes

From the luxury, 12-acre boutique outpost of the Neipperg family, the 2012 La Mondotte (generally 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc) has an inky/purple color, sweet mulberry, black cherry and cassis note, stunning purity and full-bodied texture. The wine’s opulence and voluptuous character compare to its greatest vintages, such as 1998, 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010. Its great terroir (clay and limestone soils) shines through with a stunning effort in the vintage. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

Score: 95 Robert Parker (RP), The Wine Advocate (WA), April 2015

Very intense nose showing orange peel, blackberries as well as ink and vanilla notes. Full-bodied red with chewy tannins, lovely acidity and a long, long finish. Complex and structured. Drink after 2019.

Score: 95 James Suckling (JS), JamesSuckling.com, February 2015

The 2012 La Mondotte is likely to require quite a bit of time to come together. Dense and powerful in the glass, yet with a vertical spine of structure, the 2012 has a lot to say. Smoke, graphite, black cherries, mocha and licorice flow through to the dense, powerful finish. The purity of the fruit is striking. La Mondotte, a 85% Merlot/15% Cabernet Franc blend emerges from a tiny estate with vineyards planted on a bed of limestone and clay.

Score: 94 Antonio Galloni (AG), Vinous Media (VM), January 2016
