Tasting Notes

Beautiful blackberry and blueberry aromas with hints of spices and wild mushrooms. Full-bodied with tight, firm and silky tannins. Try after 2024.

Score: 94 James Suckling (JS), JamesSuckling.com, March 2021

The 2018 Latour à Pomerol is fabulous. Rich, dense and explosive, the 2018 possesses off the charts richness to match its decidedly exotic, opulent personality. Ripeness is pushed to the edge, and yet the 2018 retains striking balance. Inky red fruit, cherry jam and sweet spice notes add to the wine´s decidedly flamboyant personality. In a word: Superb.

Score: 92-95 Antonio Galloni (AG), Vinous Media (VM), April 2019

The 2018 Latour à Pomerol (100% Merlot) is deep garnet-purple colored and offers up beautiful floral notions of lavender and rose hips with a core of black cherries, warm plums and mulberries plus wafts of underbrush, bay leaves and mossy bark. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a muscular core of densely packed black fruits with bright, herbal sparks and framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing earthy.

Score: 93-95 Lisa Perrotti-Brown (LPB), The Wine Advocate (WA), April 2019

The 2018 Latour à Pomerol was a difficult wine to judge out of barrel last year. Now in bottle, I am still not convinced by the nose, which is missing the focus and harmony that I know this cru can deliver in spades. There are lots of tobacco and earthy notes, but it needs more fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, rather rustic and big-boned in style, leading to a slightly austere finish. It just misses the charm of its peers.

Score: 89 Neal Martin (NM), Vinous Media (VM), March 2021

All Merlot from a tiny parcel on the upper plateau, the 2018 Château Latour A Pomerol is one of the more concentrated, structured wines in the Moueix stable. It offers a powerful, medium to full-bodied, concentrated style that has some oak to integrate, terrific black and blue fruits, notes of chocolate, saddle leather, and earthy tobacco, building tannins, and a great finish. It comes together beautifully with time in the glass and is a serious, age-worthy Pomerol that will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades.

Score: 93+ Jeb Dunnuck (JD), JebDunnuck.com (JD), March 2021

Powerful and dense, majoring on black cherry with a touch of crushed mint. Velvet-textured, this is enjoyable with plenty of swagger.
