ONE ON WINE
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, A Sensation in Burgundy - Starting from, HKD HK$550.00

Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is based in Chassagne-Montrachet in Cote de Beaune of Burgundy. The name of this domaine is a combination of Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife’s name, Caroline Morey.

Pierre-Yves Colin worked as the winemaker at his father’s famed domaine (Domaine Marc Colin in Saint-Aubin) from 1994 to 2005. After leaving his family´s vineyard with six-hectare share, he established his own domaine with his wife Caroline Morey (the daughter of another famed Burgandian family, Domaine Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne). His own vineyards are mostly to be found in the wine appellation of St-Aubin (such as premier crus Champlots and Remilly) and Chassagne-Montrachet (such as premier cru Caillerets). However their full range of wines from purchased grapes covers from Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and the grand crus as well, including very fine Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and weightier Bâtard-Montrachet.

Since Pierre-Yves Colin’s leaving from family vineyard, he continuously developed his wine-making techniques, and rapidly became a star in the Cote de Beaune. He is now considered as one of Burgundy’s top chardonnay producers. His choice to use larger oak barrels and abandoning the use of lees stirring, no filtration, no fining, and using of natural yeasts, makes each one of his bottlings a clear expression of its terroir and has become a model in mineral-driven Chardonnay.

In the past decade, he´s gone from rising star to full-fledged sensation in Burgundy and his wines have achieved "must-buy" status among sommeliers, collectors, and Burgundy drinkers alike. Even Robert Parker praised Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, as “one of Burgundy’s most exciting young producers.”
