Moderate reduction dominates the nose today though there is very good verve to the nicely dense and textured medium weight flavors that exhibit focused power on the dusty and youthfully austere if slightly awkward finish due to mildly grippy tannins. I suspect that this will round out successfully once this has a few years of bottle age.

The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has a crisp, classically styled, crushed rock and slightly chalky bouquet, the tightly coiled red and black fruit overshadowed by that stony facade. The palate conveys a lot of nascent energy, offering bright red berries laced with blood orange and brown spices, and leading to a precise and very persistent finish. Superb.
