A cool, restrained and airy nose features notes of various floral elements, citrus peel and mineral reduction. The racy and almost painfully intense medium weight flavors brim with minerality on the beautifully delineated, linear and bone-dry finale. This tightly wound effort is very classy and quite stylish.

The 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières is brilliant, unwinding with scents of citrus oil, crisp Anjou pear, green apple, white flowers, crushed chalk and toasted wood. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and incisive, it´s electric and tightly wound, with terrific concentration, appreciable structuring dry extract and a long, mineral finish. As I´ve written before, Pierre Morey farmed this 0.55-hectare parcel before acquiring it at the end of the 1980s, and the composition of the soils suggests that this was the location where rejected stones from the quarry that lends the climat its name were discarded.

2019 is another fine vintage for Anne Morey, who confidently directs this 11-hectare domaine, as well as her family´s Maison Morey-Blanc (also reviewed in this report). Beginning harvest on September 12, Morey reported predictably below-average yields: small berries, thick skins and not much juice liberated at the press—in contrast to 2018. Since this estate is so well-known for its white wines, it may bear repeating that Anne Morey has really elevated the red wines here and that everything from the Bourgogne Rouge up merits readers´ attention. I found the 2019s reminiscent of the domaine´s 2015s, but more vibrant and—on the red side of the ledger—more elegant. In short, everything reviewed here comes warmly recommended.
