A slightly more deeply pitched nose combines notes of spice, red and dark currant, plum and plenty of humus-inflected forest floor character. The sleek and almost painfully intense larger-bodied flavors possess exquisite detail as well as focused power that really builds as the solidly complex and lingering finish sits on the palate. As one would expect in the 2021 vintage, this doesn´t have its usual volume, but the balance is impeccable. Highly recommended.

The 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains unwinds to reveal aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with notions of baking chocolate, forest floor and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it´s a powerful, structured wine that´s broader-shouldered than the more suave, elegant Cailles and Les Saint-Georges, but which is also exceptionally characterful.
Score: 92-94 William Kelley (WK), The Wine Advocate (WA), February 2023
