An airy and attractively layered nose of markedly ripe red pinot fruit, earth and plenty of enveloping earth nuances is very much in keeping with the equally earth-driven, delicious and intense medium-bodied flavors that possess an unusually refined mid-palate. This is presently in the process of shutting down and thus plenty of patience will be required as it is very austere and backward today.

The2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Fonteny is flat-out beautiful. Striking, well-articulated aromatics lead to sensual layers of fruit in this totally finessed, elegant Gevrey. Deep, spiced notes add complexity on the finish. The Clos du Fonteny is simply dazzling from the very first taste. Hints of Chambolle-like perfume linger in the empty glass.
